The EnviroGuard Systems will consist of a unique two-stage mixed bed ion exchange with an activated carbon pretreatment, micron filtration, and an ultraviolet (UV) light system to prevent long-term microbe contamination. System designs can vary depending on specific requirements.

The unique properties of Smart Sonic’s 440-R® SMT Detergent, the EnviroGuard System are able to meet the specific purity, flow rate, and throughput requirements for a Smart Sonic Ultrasonic Stencil Cleaner. These systems are designed for the use of 440-R SMT Detergent, since other detergents may have harsh chemicals, and contain volatile organic compounds which could require more complex wastewater treatment.

In addition to continuously filtering the rinse water from your stencil cleaner, the EnviroGuard System provides an additional source of DI water. Once the resistivity monitor reaches the 1 meg Ohm setpoint, this indicates that the carbon tank will no-longer provide high quality DI water. However, the wash water can be batch filtered to prolong the life of the bath. Thus, the Smart Sonic EnviroGuard System provides a Closed-loop Water Recycling System. With the EnviroGuard, there will be no need to drain wastewater or vent vapor through ducting. The resin filters can last 1 to 3 months, under normal operations. a Closed-loop Water Recycling System. Smart Sonic’s EnviroGuard comes with an array of features. The main feature on this system is the DI Water Quality Meter. The meter will ensure that you have consistent DI water for your stencil cleaning process, and it allows you to tell when the resin filters need to be changed.

EnviroGaurd Maintenance

Smart Sonic’s EnviroGuard is a 100% closed-looping system that uses filters to capture and clean the contaminants in the wash and rinse water. Normal operation only requires periodic filter changes.

Cartridge Filters

Cartridge Filters on the EnviroGuard System will filter water before it enters the resin tanks. This prevents tank fouling, and thus, it prolongs the life of the resin tanks. Smart Sonic offers a wide range of micron sizes and types of cartridge filters.

 

Carbon Resin Tank

The EnvirGaurd System uses an 8” x 24”  carbon resin tank to clean both the rinse and ultrasonic wash water. Under normal usage, this tank should last between 1 to 3 months. The Carbon Resin Tanks remove certain chemicals and particularly organic compounds from the water. 

Mixed Bed Resin Tank

The EnvirGaurd System uses an 8” x 24”  mixed bed resin tank to clean both the rinse and ultrasonic wash water. Under normal usage, this tank should last between 1 to 3 months. The Mixed Bed Resin Tanks remove the remaining chemicals and deionizes the water. 

Maintenance of the Model 1550 is also very easy. When cleaning solder paste, the 440-R SMT Detergent wash solution is drained only once every couple of weeks. The waste solder paste is “flushed” out and contained in a gravity trap where it is easily removed for recycling or disposal. Then, fresh wash solution is then added to the wash tank and the system is ready to use. When using an optional wastewater evaporator, there is no liquid hazardous waste disposal and no resin filters because nothing is discharged to drain.

Ultrasonic Stencil Cleaning

Smart Sonic offers a wide array of ultrasonic equipment, from fully automatic stencil cleaners to semi-automatic stencil cleaners.

Smart Sonic Stencil Cleaners are able to clean any type of solder paste from any fine pitch stencil, at the same time its low power density is safe for cleaning misprinted PCBs and pallets. Its low-temperature cleaning conserves energy and protects stencils from heat distortion and adhesive failure.

All Smart Sonics Stencil Cleaners are able to communicate with an EnviroGuard System or a Smart Sonic Evaporator. This provides for a more automated and environmentally friendly Closed-loop Stencil Cleaning System.

SMT Detergent

Smart Sonic’s 440-R SMT Detergent is the workhorse of the Smart Sonic Process. 440-R is an effective chemistry for cleaning all types of solder paste.

More importantly, 440-R does not contain any Volatile Organic Compounds (Zero-VOC), which means that Smart Sonic is able to treat the wastewater through evaporation or through resin filters.

Other SMT detergents contain volatile compounds which are hazardous to evaporate or require more complex wastewater filtration.

Water Treatment

Smart Sonic provides two methods for treating SMT wastewater. Our most popular method is with the Model EZ-0 and the Model SE-1 evaporators. Wastewater is heated and evaporated through an exhaust duct. After the water is evaporated, you can easily dispose of the remaining solids.

Smart Sonic offers wastewater treatment through carbon and resin filters with our EnvrioGuard System. Our filter will catch any solder paste or harmful chemicals, and it can provide an additional source for Deionized (DI) water. This method is more popular where our clients don’t have a suitable means to exhaust vapor for an evaporator or have limited access to DI water.
