Since the introduction of the Smart Sonic Stencil Cleaning Process in 1990, the process has been evaluated and tested by recognized experts in the field of surface mount technology and by authoritative regulating agencies such as the EPA, Cal/EPA, and AQMD. No other process in the electronics industry has met these high standards or been renowned by so many. Customers can rest assured that their decision to use Smart Sonic is the right decision and that the process is confirmed safe, effective, fast, economical, and environmentally correct.

In 1999, the Smart Sonic Stencil Cleaning Process was certified for specific parameters of Environmental Safety, user safety and cleaning efficiency by the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA). A Smart Sonic automatic stencil cleaner and a Smart Sonic semi-automatic stencil cleaner were evaluated using Smart Sonic’s non-hazardous 440-R SMT Detergent. Subsequent to the Certification by Cal/EPA, the data was Verified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program.

While the California EPA Certification data is valid for a period of three years, the U.S. EPA Verification of that data is permanent and does not expire (see letter from the Cal/EPA DTSC below). Recertification of the California EPA data would be important and necessary only if the overall process has changed or a different chemistry was used.

The Smart Sonic Stencil Cleaning Process is the only stencil cleaning process to meet the “Test of Time” and has not changed since its introduction in 1990. Only the appearance and user friendliness of the machines have been improved to lower chemistry consumption, generate less wastewater and facilitate easier loading and unloading, etc. Today, Smart Sonic remains the only stencil cleaning process ever to pass California EPA Certification and complete the US EPA’s Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program*. No other stencil cleaner manufacturer or cleaning process has been able to meet these stringent guidelines.
